Mother’s Day, the way it is usually conceived of and celebrated, reinforces the message that there is one right way to be a family.
The imagery and commercialism of the day reinforce ideas of race, class, citizenship, sexuality, and marital status that we seek to redefine and break open.
Add your voice to push back against dehumanizing messages and images of motherhood and mothering that do not reflect the reality of our lives. Celebrate immigrant women, who, like all women in our society, deserve equality, dignity, and human rights.
