Immigrant Women in the News

Coverage of anti-immigrant, anti-family legislative efforts portray women in a discombobulated way, pointing to issues that directly relate to women but not recognizing their presence in the narrative. The language used often focuses on ugly rhetoric and legal clauses, as if real people are not at the heart of the debate.

The overwhelming majority of stories that accuse mothers of having derogatory motives for childbearing do not have a counter argument, and almost no stories quote immigrant mothers.

Below is a selection of news articles and opinion pieces that elevate immigrant women’s voices and paint a more realistic picture of the immigration experience for millions of women and families.
